Testing Instructions

If you have received a test can from us, click here to register your device!

It is important to wait at least 24 hours after system installation or service to begin testing!

  1. Prepare your home by closing ALL windows and doors for 12 hours prior to opening the test kit. Keep the house in this “closed” condition for the entire exposure. Standard entry and exit are acceptable, but DO NOT leave any doors or windows open.
  2. Your test must be conducted in the lowest livable space (as defined by the building code). This is usually a bedroom or living room in the basement. DO NOT place the test can in the crawl space, furnace room, or bathroom.
  3. You will register your test can on the Accustar website once the test is complete, and you must know the start and end times of your exposure.
  4. Peel the tape around the can & pop the top open. Save both the tape & the lid to reseal when exposure is complete.
  5. Place the bottom half of the test can AT LEAST 36’’ above the floor & 36’’ away from exterior walls (as close to the center of the room as possible).
    DO NOT place near any vents or drains, and at least 4’’ away from any other objects.
  6. Leave the can undisturbed for a minimum of 48 hours. Testing can be conducted for up to 4 days, but 48 hours is preferred. Be sure to record the start and end time!
  7. Reseal the can using the saved lid & tape.
  8. Register your test on the AccuStar Website: https://accustarlabs.com/can4 and click on “REGISTER DEVICE”.
    Enter the appropriate information about your property address and times of exposure.
  9. Seal the test can in the envelope provided at installation & drop it off with the shipping carrier within 2 days of sealing the can. You will need to provide priority shipping.Ship to:

    Results are available on the AccuStar website the next business day after they receive the device, and can be viewed using the “Check Results” function.

PLEASE NOTE:
Unused kits can remain sealed for up to 12 months before they expire. After this time, a new kit will be required. We do not offer replacements for expired or incorrectly used test kits or kits with missing or incorrect information. If your kit has expired or inaccurate information has been provided, you must purchase a new kit at the current price.
